USG: young Male with umbilical pain Print E-mail

SCROLL FOR ANSWER

Diagnosis
Pilonidal sinus of umbilicus
Discusison
Pilonidal sinus disease is a common problem of sacrococcygeal region. However, it is also observed in the periumbilical area.Male sex, young age, hairiness, deep navel, and poor personal hygiene are the predisposing factors. Presence of hair within the cystic lesion that appears on initial examination to be an abscess points toward a pilonidal sinus of the umbilicus
Though treatment is conservative, one should consider the disease and operate on, if the symptoms persist over 4 weeks or the patint has frequent recurrences over 3 months against conservative therapy
